Welcome letter to parents
ZOOM MEETING ID: 883-321-1518
Welcome to fourth and fifth grade!
My name is Debra Odening and I look forward to being your child’s teacher this year! Let me tell you a little about myself. I have taught grades 2nd -9th, so I know where your child has been and where they need to go. I am a mother of three wonderful boys. I love to spend time with my husband and children as well as read, travel, play sports and boogie board at the beach! I have become a better cook out of necessity but I do not love it! I have two cats named Muffin and Cupcake. I love teaching and working with children. It is important to me that your child enjoys learning and enjoys being at school. I would like to take this time to clarify a few important matters so that learning can take place and so your child feels successful by knowing what is expected.
Homework will be given on a daily basis to provide reinforcement and to develop important study and organizational skills. Your child will have math homework as well as language arts homework. This will include weekly spelling/vocabulary words. Students should practice these words daily. Occasionally students will have projects that may need to be finished at home. Your child should also read for 20 minutes every night and fill out the reading log that goes home at the beginning of the week.
Your child will have Physical Education 3 times a week. Please make sure your child brings or wears proper athletic shoes on the days we have P.E. (Usually Monday-Thursday).
Also, your child will have a monthly calendar. Please review it daily, if possible. Each day your child will color in the calendar depending on the day he/she had. Green means your child had a GREAT day and they completed their homework, classwork, followed class rules and behaved on the yard. An explanation for each color is listed on your child’s monthly calendar. Also, on the calendar you will see if your child completed their homework. If so, a “C” will appear letting you know that homework was completed and turned in. An “I” means the homework was incomplete and a “U” means that your child did not do their homework and received a mark of unsatisfactory. Please review the monthly calendar with your child. This is an easy way to “peek” into your child’s day here in room 8.
I will be giving out store “dollars” and your child can turn those dollars into rewards at the end of each month. So, if your child comes home with a special item at the end of the month you know it is an award for a job well done!
If you have any questions or concerns you can e-mail me at email@example.com or call the school and leave me a message. The phone number for Saturn is: (323) 931-1688.
I look forward to a great year!
